O Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA) abriu as suas portas no dia 2 de Novembro de 2008, apenas sete meses após o início da sua construção. Foi uma verdadeira corrida contra o tempo, para albergar a a última prova do Campeonato Mundial de Superbike desse ano.
